The Prescott Flycasters meet the second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Smoki Museum on Gurley Street (behind the old armory) in Prescott. The next meeting date is MAY 13, 2008.
2008 meeting summaries JANUARY:
The January meeting included discussion of the Nature Conservancy's purchase of a tract of land along the upper Verde River near Paulden. The Nature Conservancy is in the process of deciding how to manage this property in the future. There has been indications that the Nature Conservancy, with the help of AZGFD, plan to manage a portion of the upper Verde River for native fishes. There were also discussions about members of the club volunteering time and effort to the Nature Conservancy's future plan for the newly purchased tract. A representative for the Nature Conservancy will likely come to a club meeting to discuss various issues.
The January meeting also included a presentation by a representative of AZGFD and a short film. The film focused on how hunters and fishermen in the US have been the greatest supports of wildlife and fisheries conservation/management efforts since the beginning of such efforts. Pat yourself on the back!....now, go by a fishing license!
FEBRUARY: The February meeting will consist of a raffle for fishing related items that were donated to the club recently as well as fly tying demonstrations. Bring your vise, tools, and materials if you are willing to help present some of your favorite patterns.
MARCH: Dan Cambell from the Nature Conservancy was unable to attend the meeting. Hopefully he will be able to attend a meeting in the near future and shed some light on the topic of what the Nature Conservancy is planning for the newly acquired tract along the upper Verde River. Discussion of upcoming outings to such places like JD Dam and Hurricane Lake in the White Mountains also took place. PLEASE, GET SIGNED UP AND PAYED UP FOR THE HURRICANE LAKE TRIP ASAP ASAP ASAP. Many folks signed up to take part in the annual Earth Day Granite Creek Cleanup that will be taking place Saturday, April 19th at Granite Creek Park at 8AM. THANK YOU AGAIN!! In addition, several new members to the club attended the March meeting. Welcome to Mr. Tom Phiel and the entire Commerford family!!!
APRIL: The April 8th meeting will include a few different items of discussion and a fly tying demonstration on foam flies. Bring your own vise, hooks, and tools, other materials will be provided. COME ONE COME ALL!
